Project Overview

A state-of-the-art shopping, entertainment, and dining attraction in downtown Gatlinburg, Anakeesta offers an exciting outdoor experience for families of all ages. Mountain views, delicious food, and unique crafts are just the start of the Anakeesta experience. Visitors are whisked away to the outdoor entertainment area via a scenic Chondola (chair lift and gondola) before exploring adventures including dueling ziplines, a tree canopy walk, and more.

Charles Blalock and Sons and Blalock Lumber Company provided all site work, including the initial demolition, grading, and utility installations for the downtown and mountain section of the Anakeesta. We also constructed retaining walls and new decorative sidewalks to realign existing city walkways along US 441 into the new development.

Working with Leitner-Poma of America, our team provided crane and rigging services to install various components of the chondola lift stations and towers, including the 58,000-pound motor house and drive unit installed at the top of Anakeesta Mountain. Additionally, Blalock Ready Mix provided all of the ready mix concrete and concrete pumping for the project. We worked with Leitner Poma crews to construct pipe systems along the lift line to deliver concrete to all of the chondola tower footings. At times, this required more than 300-feet of pipe system to pump concrete to remote footings on Anakeesta Mountain. Our team also provided waste removal services for construction of Firefly Village, the retail and dining complex at the top of Anakeesta Mountain.

Following the Chimney 2 wildfires in November 2016, we provided hydroseeding services to stabilize cleared areas on Anakeesta Mountain damaged by the fire.
