Blalock Ready Mix Receives NRMCA Gold Level Safety Awards
Blalock Ready Mix was recently awarded the Gold Level of Achievement for Safety by the National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA). The annual awards are based on OSHA plant incident rates for the previous year. The contest was developed by the NRMCA to encourage and incentivize safe practices at ready mix concrete plants on a national level. For the calendar year of 2009, Blalock Ready Mix reported zero incidents at the Sevierville and Boyds Creek plants, earning Gold Level awards at both locations. “We are very proud of our employees for their commitment to safety at our plants, and we hope to continue our success in this safety program,” said Kevin Blalock, vice-president of Blalock Ready Mix.
A key component to the success of Blalock Ready Mix’s safety program is extensive employee training. In addition to on-the-job training for new hires and continual classroom training through the Blalock Training Academy, Blalock Ready Mix drivers also train in the Blalock Driving Simulator. This motion-based simulator allows drivers to train in a risk-free environment before encountering challenges on the road. By combining these types of training, Blalock Ready Mix strives to create a zero accident culture in all operations.
