The National Ready Mix Concrete Association has announced that Blalock Ready Mix has earned a Green-Star plant certification for the company’s facility in Pigeon Forge. According to the NRMCA, the Green-Star program promotes environmental sustainability and stewardship in the concrete industry. The program also recognizes companies for developing an Environmental Management System as a tool for continuous improvement. As part of this system, participants in Green-Star are required to set and achieve measurable environmental goals for each plant in 3 to 9 month cycles.
“We are very excited about this achievement,” says Kevin Blalock, vice president of Blalock Ready Mix. “Green-Star certification was one of our main goals for this facility throughout planning and construction. We have worked hard to develop our program and look forward to implementing it at other plants.”
The Blalock facility was opened in 2010 and has completed the first cycle of goals under the Green-Star Environmental Management System. The plant, which is the only enclosed concrete plant in the area, should complete its second goal cycle in September. It is the 196th plant in the world and only the second in Tennessee to be Green-Star certified. For more information on the program, visit www.blalockcompanies.com/content/green-plants.
