Aviation and transportation jobs demand quality concrete capable of meeting stringent specifications. At Blalock Ready Mix, we have years of experience working with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, and local municipalities to provide quality concrete for both paving and structural applications. We understand the local, state, and federal specifications and have developed production and process controls to meet these requirements. For example, all of our plants are DOT inspected and approved, and they are each equipped with concrete and aggregate testing laboratories. All of our batching and technical services personnel are certified by the American Concrete Institute, the National Ready Mix Concrete Association, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation for field testing and batch plant operations. This ensures that we always have highly trained personnel equipped with the right tools to oversee production for any public works job.
However, our work doesn’t end when the truck is loaded. By working closely with concrete crews from Charles Blalock and Sons, our quality control staff can closely monitor how our concrete actually performs on the job. This feedback allows us to move beyond basic acceptance testing; instead, we are able to do research and product development to improve how the concrete performs as it is placed. For example, when Blalock slip-form curbing crew wanted a better initial finish on their curbing, we experimented with different sands and admixtures to improve the concrete workability. The result: a proprietary mix that increases productivity and improves the final product.
By perfecting our processes and products in house through years of practical applications, Blalock Ready Mix has built a reputation as the only choice for transportation and public works projects in Sevier County.
