Environmental concerns are a huge issue in our industry, and Blalock Companies recognizes the need for not only reducing our jobsite and plant impact but also for developing environmentally friendly products that help our customers meet their environmental goals.  This means moving beyond the basics of using best management practices. It means utilizing recycled materials, incorporating LEED construction principles into our operations, forming partnerships with customers to maintain best management practices, and developing new products that set new standards for environmental stewardship.
 
Some examples of our commitment to environmental excellence include:
 
• The Blalock Academy:  a required safety, HR, and environmental training series for all supervisors
• State-administered erosion control training and certification for all grade foremen
• Implementation of plant and jobsite inspection checklists for safety and environmental issues
• Extensive use of recycled asphalt, concrete, reclaimed aggregate, fly ash, and blast furnace slag
• Pursuit of NRMCA Green Star certification for concrete plants
•  Development of alternative concrete washout options, including self-contained bins
 

As a participant of the Green Star program, Blalock Ready Mix is committed to the responsible stewardship and preservation of our environment.  At every facility, our goal is to meet or exceed the requirements of local, state, and fedeal environmental regulations.  Furthermore, we strive to become and industry leader in environmental protection, as guided by the following actions and principles:

• Minimizing the overal environmental footprint of facilities through reductions in waste, emissions, and energy consumption in the production process;
• Providing recycling solutions for concrete wastes to customers, both at our facilities and on job sites;
• Actively promoting the use of recycled and environmentally-friendly components in our products and operations;
• Creating an open dialogue between the company and members of the community regarding environmental concerns and impacts;
• Integrating environmental considerations and goals into all apsects of business plans, including production, logistics, facility design and operation, and product development;
• Establishing measurable, obtainable goals for continual improvement at all facilities;
• Implementing Environmental Management Systems and environmental audits to address our goals for compliance and continual improvement;
• Reviewing procedures and practices quarterly to remain a leader in environmental stewardship.
